PDO_4D: Call to the Community

4D Headquarter in France released PDO_4D

Whether you’re a 4D developer, a PHP developer, or create tools in C / C++, there’s something for you in PDO_4D, which bridges powerful 4D databases with the ubiquity of PHP.

Started as an open source experiment during the development of 4D v11 SQL, PDO_4D is a driver that implements the PHP Data Objects (PDO) interface to enable access from PHP to 4D databases.

It’s completely open, and everyone interested is invited to help contribute to a stable 1.0 version for the current and all future versions of 4D. In fact, the PDO_4D source is available for anybody to compile into their own build.

Those interested in the driver can download it – as well as the source – from the PECL PHP extension repository: http://pecl.php.net/pdo_4d

Bug reports can be created  and reviewed at PECL, as well.

A variety of existing compiled versions can also be found at sources.4d.com, where developers may also submit their own builds.

Because PDO_4D is not an official 4D product, support and testing of the driver will come from the efforts of the developer community itself. This is an opportunity for anyone and everyone who’s interested to take the lead in creating new builds, reporting and fixing bugs, and forging ahead with PDO_4D as they see fit.

To support this community effort, a new Google Group  has been started to serve as a hub of communications and exchange. It will provide a forum for developers and users of all backgrounds – whether 4D, PHP or otherwise – to share ideas, results, and the latest news. (http://groups.google.com/group/pdo_4d)

We look forward to seeing you there!

Mit ‘Lion’ entfällt ‘Rosetta’ und damit auch die Möglichkeit 4D 2004 (und älter) auf dem Mac auszuführen. Bereitet die Kunden schonmal darauf vor….
